The Fabric of the Season: Leather

Loving leather this season? Me too! Whether you prefer faux or can afford the real deal, leather is trend that we just can’t get enough of.

Your wardrobe wouldn't look right this season without a bit of leather included in it. Leather is extremely versatile, making it a great fabric to transition into fall with. Here are some ways I have been working leather into my fall wardrobe.

Leather Jackets

I think I have a leather jacket in nearly every colour; they are great for pairing with a dress on a night out. I have paired my oxblood coloured faux leather jacket with my favourite piece of clothing disco pants. However, a statement leather jacket would look good with black jeans, a black dress or you could double up the colour to really stand out. The monochrome look is back this fall, so pair a black leather jacket with a white dress and some black flat forms which could be adapted for a day or evening outfit.




Over the Knee Leather Boots
I recently purchased these suede/leather mix over-the-knee boots from a small second-hand designer boutique in Leamington Spa. Originally from Next you can find a pair of black over the knee leather boots in pretty much every high street shop at the moment.  I have included a link above to some gorgeous Missguided heeled over-the-knee boots. I have paired mine with a black leather miniskirt, crop top and woolly cardigan however they look great with leggings, dresses and skinny jeans.






Leather Skirts and Shorts
Leather skirts and shorts can be paired with a big woolly knitted jumper this season. I have recently purchased a large burgundy knitted jumper; it is so cosy and warm. However, here I have styled my leather skirt with a stripy navy shirt (which are also making a come-back this season), my mohair knee-length cardigan featured in my previous post and my favourite shoes at the moment, black wedges. Now it is getting a bit colder you can pair your over-sized woolly jumper and leather skirt with black tights pairing these with some bright pumps or loafers to add a bit of colour to your outfit.

Autumnal Greys

This season’s need to know neutral is grey. Grey dominated fashion week appearing in collections of DKNY, Simon Gao and Altuzarra and in many cases for designers such as Armani and Ralph Lauren entire collections devoted to marls and metallics. So wear something grey this season, simply add a dose of this easy to wear shade into your autumnal wardrobe.

As I walked into H&M yesterday on one of my many frequent shopping trips, a sea of grey, blacks and khaki colours hit me. For me a Mohairmix knee length cardigan is my staple grey piece this autumn, however there are plenty of styles and shades to choose from.

The great thing about grey is that it a versatile shade and there are plenty of different tones to suit everyone’s complexion. As well as being a hard-wearing and practical colour, grey suits a range of skin tones which is great for those with red hair and pale skin as finding the right colours to match our complexion can often be quite tricky. Grey also complements a range of other colours, for example it will look good with navy and pastel colours which can often look odd with black.

The best description for the Grey trend this season is off-duty chic. It is for me anyway I like the effortlessly stylish look that this cardigan brings and I am all for the soft and slouchy fashion trend that has hit the high street.

Whether you adopt the soft and slouchy look, or you go for sharp tailoring, sports-luxe or feminine, the look will always look understated and restrained. Try mixing this colour with pale pinks and other pastel colours, or pair with black like I have done.

I ventured to London last weekend to visit my amazing best friend, see the sights and indulge in some retail therapy. First stop Oxford Street. I love Oxford Street, I remember going there as a child and being awed by all the different people and unique fashion trends that are attracted to this city. I remember my first trip to United Colors of Benetton with my Grandma, where she bought me a beautiful fiery orange scarf. I felt so fashionable and luxurious all day. 

One of my favourite stores to stop in at the moment is Bershka, there is so much choice and it is always bang on trend. I chose this burgundy dress with a low back and zip up front for my night out in London. I paired the dress with these gorgeous brown zip up peep toe heels from TK Maxx.

I love how the deep purple and red colours of burgundy draws attention to my white porcelain skin. I will always pair a dark outfit with a Burgundy lip as I feel it helps to add depth to an outfit. However, I would advise against wearing Burgundy, or deep purple/reds if you do not want to draw attention to the white tones of your skin as it will generally enhance this. 

For a more casual look I paired the dress with a burgundy knit jumper that I bought from Primark at the weekend. It is so comfortable and will definitely keep me warm over the winter.

I LOVE my disco pants and they are a brilliant addition to your wardrobe as they can be dressed up or dressed down. I dressed them down here with a plain black strap top, burgundy leather jacket and ankle heeled boots. 

The faux leather jacket is a very versatile fashion choice as the fur collar can be removed which helps to pair the jacket with a range of outfits. Fur shrugs are really cheap to buy and can be a great addition to a casual or dressed up outfit! Check this one out on Ebay for only £7.39 and it comes in 14 different colours. The burgundy red is also a safer colour choice for Redheads as bright red tends not to suit us all.
