My Designs

I am using my blog to showcase some of my own designs so please take a look and let me know what you think. I have made a few of my own pieces over the past few months and am going to be posting them up in intervals.

I know it's officially summer and we should all be wearing the mega bright colour trend of the moment neon, but i still love the classic black and white monochrome trend. It is a classic that like the crop top refuses to leave and make way for a new piece. I love it though and when the weather isn't at its best (which in Edinburgh is quite a lot of the time) I like to bust out my black and white ensembles.

This top was inspired by my love for the black and white monochrome trend and the peplum, which I feel was another epic trend to hit the runway then stores this year. The black and white colouring although simple is wonderfully elegant and dresses up any outfit whether it be a pair of black jeans, leggings or a skirt. The neck piece inspired by the peter pan collar fashion adds detail to the neck area so not much jewellery is needed with this outfit. The neck piece is also made out of white denim which also fits in with the denim craze of the moment. I chose to match this top with a simple pearl bracelet and earrings. Please see my pictures below...

The wire rings are everywhere at the moment I can't open my instagram feed without seeing at least a few more beautiful designs. I LOVE the love rings and heart rings in particular and was browsing through esty.com when I came across these rings above.

I instantly fell in love :) (ha ha) and I thought I would have a go at recreating this... so below is my guide on how to the l and the o as the v and the e are easy once you have mastered those.

You will need:

Gold Brass Wire : mine was from The Craft Factory ( you can decide the thickness that you want to use)
Wire cutter
Long nose pliers
Pen
Paper
Nail Varnish bottle (something roughly the same shape and thickness as your finger)

Draw the l shape on a piece of a paper and bend the wire using the l as a guide (p.s. I found it easier using my fingers in most cases the pliers are good for making the circle clasp at end and for the tricky bends). Measure and cut using the wire cutters around 9-10 cm depending on the size of the finger in question (I have quite slim fingers) to leave yourself enough room for mistake.

Once you have the l shape sorted out (don't be put off if you have to keep trying it can be quite tricky  use either the lid of the nail varnish bottle or your finger to get the right shape for the ring and then bend round. Next you make a small loop at the end of the wire to push the opposite end through then tuck this round to keep it secured. You can see what I mean on the letter o wire ring that I did next.

Use the wire cutters to snip off any left over bits.

The next letter is O...

Repeat the above process maybe cutting yourself about 12cm this time as the O has more detail to it. Draw the letter O on a piece of paper use your finger and pliers to create a round circle in the wire accompanied by a smaller overlapping circle on top.

Repeat the process that was outlined above and you have 2 of your letters.

The V shape is done by bending the wire downwards in half and repeating the same process again. Finally the e is created by making a more diagonal smaller circle and again repeating the same process mentioned above. After you have finished this which took me give or take about 30 minutes you will have something that looks like this...

I also created this heart ring which I love and hasn't come off my finger apart from at work.

I will post up more photos on my instagram @gingewithatinge and on the blog as I am sure I will be making more very soon. If anyone wants me to post a tutorial on how to create the heart wire ring please either email me at gingewithatinge@gmail.com or leave a comment. Please let me know what you think of my designs.

My second DIY in the last few days I am on a roll! I saw this white top in a charity shop yesterday and thought how pretty yet plain it looked. I was dying to try out my new neon fabric pens so I decided to add some life into the top. This took me 5 minutes before I headed to work it really is very simple and would look great at any of the festivals this year, on the beach or even on a night out!

You Need:

A plain t-shirt with a cut out design (I got mine for £2.00 from a charity shop)
Fabric pen's in Neon colours ( I used Dylon Fabric Painting Fine Nib Pens)
A square piece of cardboard
An Iron

You need a plain t-shirt with a cut out pattern on it. As I said earlier this was £2.00 from a charity shop  originally from New Look.

Place a piece of cardboard behind the design so that you don't mark the rest of the t-shirt.

Using the fabric pens ink around the outline of the pattern... and 5 minutes later you are done. Leave the fabric paint to dry and then iron on the hottest heat for 1-2 minutes as per directions on the pack.

DIY

Cut Out Shoulder Crop Top

With cut out shoulder crop tops being a major trend this summer I thought I would try my hand at creating one from an old dress that I was about to throw out. These cut out shoulder crop tops are perfect for festivals, holidays, nights out. The cheeky cut out detail adds edge to this seasons must have item. This crop top goes perfectly with a pair of cut off high-waisted denim shorts. This DIY took me about 30 minutes and is really simple the how to guide will follow.

Ginge's How To Cut Out Shoulder Crop Top

What You Need:

Old Top or Dress that can be cut into a crop top
Pins
Needle and Thread or Sewing Machine

You need a dress or top that has sleeves I chose short sleeves as I wanted a summery crop top that I could wear with my new high-waisted denim shorts.

You then need to cut your dress or top to the length you would like you crop to be, bearing in mind that you need to leave 2 cm seam allowance for hemming.

Hem and sew the bottom of the crop top this can be done by hand or as I did on the sewing machine.

In order to create the cut out shoulder section I used half a saucer and drew around it. I then repeated this on the other side and cut around the chalked lines. You then need to pin and sew these cut out sections. I used the guide of the existing seam to make sure that both sides of the crop top were equal.

Ta Dah your cut out crop top is ready for the summer!

Neon Love

I love the bright neon colours that are so popular at the moment and when I think of festivals I immediately think of bright colours, glowsticks and raving! Denim shorts are the ultimate festival must have and these zip detailed shorts really caught my eye. I also LOVE the crop top trend at the moment and the lime green colouring and harness style detail really adds some edge to this outfit. Kimono jackets are a hot trend for this summer, they are so chic and the perfect addition to any festival inspired outfit. Kimono jackets are not only stylish and fashionable they are also a practical item for keeping your arms and shoulders covered. I chose caged sandals as they are comfortable, allow your feet to breathe and have the most important advantage of being super cute! They match the crop top as well I have a major thing about being colour coordinated :). I love the double finger rings and swallows are timeless, the sheer metallic finish also fits in with this years metallic madness fashion. Sunnies of course fingers crossed the sun lasts. I added an ear cuff as no 1. they are a lasting trend at the moment and no 2. it matches the rest of the outfit perfectly tying in with the neon theme. I love this style of necklace the chunkier the better, they dress up any outfit and add great detail. Lastly a festival outfit is never complete with a couple of colourful friendship bracelets and these are so nice.

Sunglasses - Dorothy Perkins - Ages ago
Denim bow detailed crop top - My own creation
Black Jersey Belted Maxi Skirt - River Island - £25.00
Black Belt - Primark - £3.00
Black flip-flops - Primark last year - similar ones here for £4.99 on Ebay
Bangles - Charity Shop - £1.45

Fashion seems to have jumped back to the 90's recently with the return of denim dungarees, ripped jeans, beanies and crop tops. This SS13 crop tops are everywhere, the catwalks saw a variety of crops in a variety of shapes and designs from Jonathan Saunders to Balenciaga and Louis Vuitton to Mui Mui's.

In light of this trend I decided to get out my sewing machine and have a crack myself. Considering two of the hot favourites this SS13 are crop tops and denim I thought why not combine the two.

This denim bow detailed crop top is an ideal holiday item. It is loosely fitting and can be matched as I have done here with a long black skirt and flip flops for a casual look or for an evening look try matching it with a pair of high-waisted disco pants and heels. The large denim bow adds quite a bit of detail to the outfit so I would suggest that it is worn with minimal jewellry as I have done here wearing only a few gold bangles.

I know that for a lot of Redhead's with pale skin wearing a crop top is exposing a lot of skin... however there are a huge range of crops out there to suit everyone from longer crops to bralet tops. Just remember to wear what you feel comfortable in.

Maybe I will have a go at a similar style to this denim crop top released by Rihanna for River Island as they are sold out right now!

I love my newest charity shop find. The floral design is very in at the moment and the cat eye shaped frame was all over the SS13 catwalk shows. When it comes to sunglasses there are those who will spend a lot on a pair of shades and those who buy a cheap pair to cover them over the summer period I am the latter. These beauties cost me a mere 99p and they will be much loved and used in my upcoming holiday to Tunisia.

Floral Sunglasses - Charity shop - 99p
Patterned Scarf - Charity shop - £2.00

This season is all about the sunnies, so getting it right is a big must this season.

1. Be brave this summer and clash your radiant red hair with hot berry's and pinks, it's a myth that us Redhead's can't get away with pink. Check out Disney star Bella Thorne rocking the hot pink shades while out walking her dog!

(This picture was taken from thedailymail.co.uk)

2. Emerald green shades would look wicked against our rich red colour.

3. Brown shades are a safer option, however they don't have to be boring try a leopard print patterned pair.

4. Black sunnies will look striking against our red hair.

5. It is better to avoid white or cream sunglasses as they tend to wash out our features.
Don't be shy this summer try the new trends whether you suit the rayban, creepers or cat eye look.
